The gameplay within Triangle Strategy is divided into a few different parts. On the other hand, if you treat Triangle Strategy as an interactive visual novel with RPG elements, you will love it – hear me out, oké? The game’s central premise is not the tactical RPG aspect it’s the story Tomoya Asano is trying to tell. If you go in expecting Bravely Default mixed with Octopath Traveler (or a new Octopath Traveler), you’ll be disappointed. Triangle Strategy isn’t a game in the primary sense of being a game. However, I’m here to advocate for something else. Most people will know producer Tomoya Asano of his hit titles Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler games. Triangle Strategy is marketed as a tactical role-playing game developed by Artdink and published by Square Enix. The game follows protagonist Serenoa Wolffort, his childhood friend Prince Roland, Serenoa’s fiancée Princess Frederica Aesfrost, and the steward of House Wolffort Benedict as they attempt to navigate their way through the conflict. The story focuses on a new conflict thirty years after the “Saltiron War,” a war between three countries of the continent – Glenbrook, Aesfrost, and Hyzante – that arose over fighting for the scarce resources of salt and iron. The game takes place on the fictional continent of Norzelia. I’ll explain why.īefore I address the elephant in the room, let’s talk a bit about the context of Triangle Strategy. This is also why I love games like Fire Emblem or reading books from Leigh Bardugo and the sorts. I love fantasy books, especially when they talk about intercultural conflicts that spark a war or a dystopian setting in which the hero (or nation) comes up with some great solution to save the day. ![]()
